Jon Hopkins, [Insides]

by spiral 2018. 6. 7.

It is only with this album, not the two previous ones for example, that Hopkins' work starts showing excellence. Yet, it cannot be said that this move alone can make him truly remarkable as an electronic musician. At this stage, he still is one of the many promising young musicians in the field. Why is that? Because we see no true singularity in there in terms of electronicity. For instance, we can say the same work below may have been acoustically expressed. This compatibility between electronic and acoustic is a sign of lack of true insight. That is, electronicity should be irreversible, while starting from its opposite, i.e., acousticity. Is not this why electronic music involves non-musical or non-acoustic factors like visuals as its indispensable element, especially when on stage?
