Selected Tracks for Nacht Dämonen (2017; expected to be out in March)

---

It is evident that this piece marks the apex of Byul.org's upcoming album, Nacht Dämonen. And it is not easy not to be tempted by the in-between voice, the voice neither woman's nor girl's (Notice the narrator's dual voices one of which underlies the other with its more youthful and bashful tone from the outset. We may say those represent the gap between 25 year old and 12 year old.), or, the voice on the threshold of becoming woman, i. e., the girl's voice which lets itself showered with a self-created phantasmal image of man. In this regard, the last excessively repeated phrase, "this is how we came only to have sex with each other from the moment on, night and day for a couple of days, without eating and sleeping, only to have sex, sex, sex..." estranges itself from the banal story so far told, coloring the pedestrian love story in a unprecedented way--for this, you may refer to the phrase from the narrator, "Until then, we had no idea. (But everything changed after that.)" Obviously, this is the moment of transubstantiation from the body to the soul. The result is the blurring of the boundary between reality and illusion. Here, we have no way to determine whether it is real or not. And any attempts to determine its status is beside the point. Truth being told, here we spot the moment of subtraction of the phantasmal kernel of reality from reality itself. (Of course, the first movement of subtraction occurs when the female narrator subtracts herself from a body of anonymous friends. And the second movement comes when she is detached from her family that goes on a trip somewhere. Finally, the immaterial sex itself is subtracted from her body at the end of the story when it repeatedly says, "only to have sex without eating and sleeping.") This is the moment when 'girl' becomes 'woman,' or 'it,' or more precisely, becomes 'the body in contact with jouissance.' And it is this immaterial voice that takes place and resounds here and there at the same time, traversing time, for example, from when is 25 to when was 12 and so on and so forth. (No doubt, we encounter many exemplary cases of such a voice in David Lynch's films.) Yes, sometimes, we call it love. Yet, sometimes, it is likely to go by other strange names than love, especially when you should ever try to fix love to a corporeal body of somebody. Love is something more than a mere body,

* My thanks go to Dir. Cho of Byul.org for giving me the chance of having a prior listen. It has already been a year since I first got the tracks. And, to be honest, the remark above was written a year ago as well. That is why the mix you are hearing is a little different than you are likely to hear in the finalized album.
